I love making these QAYG string blocks. In fact if I could choose only one type of patchwork, I'd choose these as they allow me to make pretty quilts from scraps that most people would throw away. The combination of different colours always looks good and I also use up odd scraps of batting that aren't normally used.
I use any strips that are wider than 3/4" and don't use any that are wider than 3". I still have to add the strips to join them all together and then I'll post another photo.
In the meantime we're off camping with friends for a few days.

these look great.... most of my string blocks use strings under 1.5".
It looks great... quilt as you go really makes life easier doesn't it? Nice blog... Lx
I wonder how many string quilts there are like this? Must be millions!I still love them though, for the same reasons you say. Thanks for the show pics, nice eye candy there.
Do you want a donation of batting and scraps? We have piles of batting strips, to wide to throw away and too narrow to join for a big quilt. Just say the word and we'll send you some.
Your blocks look great! Quilt as you go is a good method. I like it too.
I love the look of your GAYG blocks - the narrow sashing used to join them adds a lot I think.
