Lots Happening Here.

On Monday we delivered another 63 quilts for the flood affected community of Rochester and our thanks go to Annette Pearce for couriering the bags of quilts to Mary Anne Rooney I Bendigo and she has then delivered them to Lesley Lowe in Kyabram for distribution. To date we have delivered 116 quilts for flood relief.

   More parcels have arrived and Rose Burns from NSW is a member of Uniforms 4 Kids Victoria and she made 2 beautiful dresses, 8 skirts and 12 pair of shorts, which will all be delivered to children in need. 

Kathie Williamson has sent another large parcel containing 8 lovely warm scarves, face washers, baby clothes and wraps and toothbrushes. 

Eileen Nash is a very generous supporter and she has donated the following 4 beautiful quilts as well as 24 knitted/crocheted blankets,  2 toddler's jumpers,  3 cloth bags and some toiletries. 

Annette Pascoe has donated 13 lovely QAYG blocks and some extra fabric.

Annette's lovely Mum, Nellie Todd, has been busy knitting and has donated 6 beautifully knitted baby jackets and 7 beanies.

I've also been busy sewing up drawstring bags from donated fabric as they are always in demand. Life's Little Treasures need a large amount for their book drive in September each year, and other organizations use them for toiletries etc. I usually make them about 10 x 12 inches or 12 x 14 inches.

I've also been sewing Santa Sacks from fabric that I  didn't have time to sew last year. I like to get started early in the year before things get too busy as Backpacks 4 Vic Kids requested 6,500 last year for their Christmas appeal and I  expect that they will need similar numbers again. They are just drawstring bags and I make them 16 x 20 inches or 20 x 24 inches. There's no need to use all Christmas themed fabric as calico, red or green fabric is fine with some decoration with Christmas fabric. I use blind cord from Bunnings for the drawstring as you buy 30 metres for about $10.

Lots Of Quilts and Others.

Lots of quilts are arriving for our flood quilt drive and they will soon be distributed to communities in need. The first beautiful QS quilt was donated by Jenny M. and Norma Aitken from Waverley Patchworkers and it has been donated to a family in northern Victoria who lost their home in the floods.

Waverley Patchworkers also donated a lovely crocheted blanket. 

Jane Pick (Vic) donated 4 beautiful quilts as well as 4 beautifully knitted shawls.

Dawn Hurd (Vic) donated 15 fabulous quilts as well as 11 beautiful patchwork cushions with inserts.

Jill Khong (Vic) very kindly knitted jumpers for 17 donated teddybears and the jumpers give them lots of personality.

Donations Arrive.

More fabulous donations have arrived with this beautiful quilt from Fran Cox. Fran has been very generously donating quilts for our flood quilt drive and they will be much appreciated. 

Elaine Powell from Qld has sent another parcel containing 2 lovely quilt tops with backing and binding as well as $50 for batting.

Debbie Slater from Victoria has sent 2 lovely quilt tops with backing and binding. 

Marie Warden from NSW has sent another large parcel containing 13 cloth bags, 3 beautifully knitted baby jackets, 2 beanies, 7 pair of knitted slippers, 1 pair of mittens,  pencil case and pencils, tissue pouch, 2 drawstring,  1 beautiful quilt,  6 lovely quilt tops,  6 QAYG blocks,  2 sets of binding and some orphan blocks. 

Many thanks for your generous donations everyone which will help so many people in need of comfort.

Just Getting Back Into The Groove.

Family events are still taking up lots of our days and it's lovely to have time to spend with them during the holidays.  Parcels and drop offs have started again and Dianne Daly delivered large number of donations recently, including 8 crocheted baby blankets made by her lovely mother,  Annie Sterling. 

Dianne and Annie also knitted 5 large and 16 small teddy bears, as well as 2 baby jackets, 10 beanies, 16 pair of booties and 34 cuddle hearts for Life's Little Treasures. 

Dianne also made 2 marble mazes, 9 drawstring bags, and 16 Santa Sacks. 

Dianne also made the lovely quilt for a child.

The 7 cute skirts and 2 bucket hats were also made by Dianne for Uniforms 4 Kids Victoria,  using donated obsolete uniforms from Ambulance Victoria. 

Faye Hender and the Murray Mallee Quilters have been very busy sewing and quilting for our flood quilt drive for Northern Victoria and they have donated 14 fabulous quilts as well as 3 pillowcases and some flannel fabric/UFOs.  Annette Pearce very kindly couriered them to us after collecting them from Faye in Swan Hill which was a big help and they will be labelled and delivered to Rochester very soon.

Such a wonderful range of quilts which will be sure to bring comfort to those affected by the floods.

I'm quilting tops and also making drawstring bags and Santa Sacks when the weather is too hot to wrestle a quilt.  The bags are always in demand by many organisations and the sizes are in the files. The drawstring bags are about 11 x 13 inches or 14x 16 inches, and Santa Sacks are 18x 20 and 20 x 24 inches but of course smaller sizes will also be welcome. 

I'm also crocheting squares for more adult blankets as many people (mostly male) who lived in caravan parks in the flooded areas are still struggling with finding suitable accommodation and I have been advised that large crocheted or knitted blankets are appreciated by them, more than pretty quilts. 

There's plenty to keep us busy and whatever you like to make and donate will be appreciated by the many people and organisations we support.
