Donations Delivered.

The effects of the pandemic have caused so many challenges, especially to the vulnerable, with increases in domestic violence, homelessness and financial difficulties.  One organization which has been helping disadvantaged young mums and their children,  as well as people affected by the Victorian  bushfires,  is St Kilda Mums.  Their requests for assistance has increased by 30% since the pandemic so I  contacted them to see uf we could help them.

They are in real need of blankets, as well as clothing, baby items etc. I already knit and sew items for them and offered blankets as the bushfire areas we had visited hadn't needed them, having already received quite a number from other groups. I was really surprised to find how many blankets that we had on hand, as well as some I had made. I kept some blankets back in case they were needed when we visit the bushfire areas again, but I prefer not to keep too many donations here when there is such a need in so many communities. I boxed up 60 blankets, many SB size as well as some bassinet and cot sized. I also donated 11 SB quilts as they don't accept baby quilts due to the risk of SIDS, and I also included baby wraps, clothing etc.

I received some lovely flannelette from Margaret Humphrey and made them into baby wraps and also included the baby layettes I have been knitting as well as a fairly new high chair which we weren't using.

St Kilda Mums has a good reputation and I am confident that our donated items will reach those in need and bring comfort to them. Thank you everyone for helping me to help so many people in need with your very generous donations.

Hugs, Jan Mac

The Weekly Wrap.

It's been a fairly productive week as Friday was a child free day and I quikted some smaller tops so there were 6 finishes this week. The first quilt was made from smaller QAYG blocks donated by Marie Lee and the Vic Quilters Association and they make another lovely quilt to donate.
This lovely blue quilt was made from string pieced blocks donated by Christa Lobb from NSW. I had stitched the blicks together a few weeks ago but they varied a bit in size and I wasn't really happy with them so I took the top apart, recut the blocks and joined them again yesterday. Now I am happy with it.
Jan Watson from Vic donated this beautiful quilt top with batting and backing and it's a lovely bright quilt.
Heidi McKinley from Vic donated this lovely smaller top with batting and backing and it's another lovely finish.
Angela Silcock from the Northern Territory donated this lovely pink quilt top with unicorns and backing included.
Lesley Lowe from Victoria has been very generous with donations and donated this lovely child's quilt top with backing and it's a very sweet quilt to donate.
We're feeling a bit flat now that restrictions haven't lifted as we've been hoping, so I am going to head back to the sewing room and get some more quilts finished.
Many thanks for all of your generous donations everyone.
Hugs, Jan Mac

Many Thanks Sunnybank Quilters of Qld.

Sendle delivered a 25kg package today from Jan Rhodes and the Sunnybank Quilters of Qld.  The box was stuffed with a large amount of QAYG blocks in varying sizes, a huge pile of orphan blocks,  as well as 7 tops and a large piece of backing fabric from Scquilters. These will make lots of lively quilts to donate and Jan Rhodes also made a very generous financial donation to help with costs.

Some of these are small wall hangings and table runners which I will alter to use as large blocks for a quilt.

Lots of work ahead but such generous donations will make plenty of people happy with a quilt of comfort.
Many thanks Jan and the Sunnybank Quilters.
Hugs, Jan Mac

This last quilt top was kindly donated by a friend of Helen Stewart from Vic and another lovely donation quilt for someone needing comfort.

I've almost finished another QAYG quilt too so there will be more to share soon.

Many Thanks Heidi.

Australia Post is so busy delivering parcels now that they even arrive at 8pm on a Sunday night which was the case with this lovely parcel if donations from Heidi McKinley (Vic). Heidi very kindly donated 2 quilt tops ready for quilting with batting and backing supplied.

These quilts will be very much appreciated by those who receive them. Heidi also donated 2 lovely tops and a $20 gift card to help with costs. Blogger messed up the order of photos again!

These 2 little boys had a lovely time in the backyard today and we all enjoyed the sunshine.

 Stay safe everyone.
