The Simpson Desert Crossing.

We have crossed the Simpson Desert and have finally have arrived at Birdsville. Internet access is limited so may not be able to post photos. The desert was lovely and peaceful and unfortunately we have a few more problems with the car so we are looking forward to getting home.
The group we traveled with was lots of fun and we conquered the largest sand dune, Big Red, which was a highlight of our trip on the desert.

Northern Territory News.

Blogging has been difficult and I haven't been able to load photos so a written report will have to do for now. We took the a Great Central Road from Laverton, WA up to Uluru, calling in at an aboriginal community out near Warburton. Our traveling companions had a relative working there in a health clinic. It was interesting to talk with the two nurses and have a tour of the health facility in a community not usually open to visitors.
From Uluru, we took the back roads via Kings Canyon and then on to Alice Springs. Our car tray had sustained damage from the extreme road conditions with corrugated roads and our first call was to arrange for a welder to repair the tray which supports our camper. There was also apparent damage done to the CV Joint of the front wheel of the car and we are currently waiting to have it examined to see if we can continue across the Simpson Desert or if we have to return home. They don't have the part required and would have to fly one in here and that would delay us for a week so we will cancel the last part of our trip if the damage is too bad to continue.
Apart from the last few days we have had a great time and I have managed to finish one crocheted blanket for the homeless and I've started making squares for another.
I'll update with photos etc as soon as the internet allows.
Hugs, Jan Mac

A Great Desert Trek.

We have arrived at Laverton at the end of the Anne Beadell Highway after a wonderful week traveling on desert roads. The only tough part about the trip has been no internet or phone reception. We're enjoying a hot shower, washing clothes, stocking up on supplies and catching up on the family news. Tomorrow we leave on the Great Central Road to travel the back way to Uluru then the back way to Alice Springs. The weather is warm and we are having a great trip seeing more of our beautiful country. We usually only see one or two cars a day and sometimes none, so we are really in the outback and loving it.

Road Trip.

We're off on another 4 wheel driving trip across the desert into Western Australia and then back across the Simpson Desert. We've spent a very enjoyable week taking the back roads of South Australia and enjoying the scenery at Arkaroola. From there we came across back roads to Coober Pedy and after a night in the brightish lights of Coober P we are off across the desert on the Annie Beadell Highway for 7 to 10 days, depending on track conditions.
Planning for this trip took some time, with various permits being required to enter aboriginal communities etc. We mainly bush camp and have hardly seen another car for the first week but have now met up with another couple of friends and we will tackle the desert areas as a group.
Of course there is very little internet access so there won't be many updates on the blog until we return. We have a house sitter so don't worry if you have posted parcels off as they will be safely collected and await my return.
    Thanks for stopping by.
Hugs, Jan Mac
