Back To Work.

Our short break is over but we did have a lovely time and feel energised again. Before I went away Backpacks 4 Vic Kids had requested more larger quilts suitable for teens so I  packed 20 quilts up and Pam Neenan very kindly delivered them to Backpacks yesterday before they close for warehouse alterations.  We also delivered 3 lovely dilly bags for Christmas gifts. 

The QAYG quilt was finished just before we left and was made from blocks donated by several different quilters.  I plan on getting more quilts finished very soon from more donated QAYG blocks so we can deliver more quilts soon.

Peaceful Norfolk Island

We've had a relaxing time as well as taking some tours to learn about the Island's history and to see the beautiful scenery. On Wednesday we toured Kingston, the heritage site of the convict settlement and learnt a lot about the history and the Pitcairn Island settlers.

Thursday we hired a car for 3 days and enjoyed taking the small county roads to their end, avoiding the cattle which were grazing along the verges.

We visited the highest point of the Island and finished the day with a delicious Fish Fry run by Baunti Tours,  and overlooking the sea as the sun set. There was a very good vocalist as well as some local girls performing Polynesian dances and it was a lovely evening with beautiful food, including traditional food.

Friday we hiked a trail in the 100 acre headland, which was another way to view the pretty scenery but some of the trail was steep in places.

It rained heavily overnight on Friday and for most of the day Saturday but we knew it was coming so planned our day around visiting museums and a lovely lunch of seafood crepes at Hilli's restaurant. You can see the muddy water in this photo as the run off from the hills was pouring down the valleys.

 It's been a lovely break and we fly home tomorrow afternoon so will soon be busy with donations again.

Norfolk Island

We finally made it to Norfolk Island and it has been worth the wait. We were booked to come this time last year but I had continuous respiratory infections and we decided to cancel and hope for better health for our trip. My lovely sister needed a break too and we travel well together so a week on Norfolk Island is just what we needed. This is the view of Phillip Island from my room.

Baunti Tours took us on an orientation tour of about a third of the island and it included a visit to a beautiful Melanesian church. The weather is fine and the pace is relaxing.

This afternoon we're taking a tour of the convict settlement and in the meantime I'm enjoying a little bit of relaxing stitching on one of my Maltaville quilt blocks.

Many Thanks For Your Generous Donations.

Marie Warden and the Narooma CWA ladies have been busy sewing and knitting and have donated pair of knitted slippers,  5 pair of knitted fingerless gloves,  and 14 beanies. 

They also creatively upcycled obsolete uniforms donated by Ambulance Victoria and made 2 bucket hats,  3 skirts, 2 pair of shorts,  2 tote bags, 1 zippered pouch, and 5 pencil cases with pencils. 

Pat Shepard has been very busy and has donated 15 fantastic quilts which will be loved by the kids who receive them. 

Sharon Barnes very kindly delivered Pat's quilts as well as donating another of her beautiful quilts.

Fantastic Quilts Donated.

More fabulous quilts have arrived and Biffy Dewhurst donated the first beautiful quilt as well as 5 lovely quilt tops. 

Faye Hender and the Murray Mallee Quilters are very generous supporters and have donated another 7 fabulous quilts for people in need. Annette Pearce very kindly delivered them back from Swan Hill to Melbourne. 

Lex Collins is another generous supporter and she has donated these fabulous 7 quilts which will be loved by their recipients. 

Thank you all so much for generously sharing your skills, time and fabric to help people in need.
