Big Group Hug Delivery.

Big Group Hug sent their van again and we donated 20 quilts,  7 blankets,  336 drawstring bags, 27 beanies,  146 beanies for newborns,  9 pair of newborn booties, approximately 150 tote/library bags, approximately 60 baby bibs, 270 soap pouches and lots of handknits.

From Uniforms 4 Kids Victoria we also donated 120 items including 5 shirts, 4 skirts,4 dresses, 1 scrunchie, 10 bags/pencil cases, 1 pair of long pants, 75 drawstring bags and 20 soap pouches. All the items were made from obsolete uniforms donated by Ambulance Victoria.

Big Group Hug really appreciated all of the donations as they were running short of many things necessary for the disadvantaged families they support.

Many thanks everyone for your support.

Donations and Upcycled Items.

Heather Russell has crocheted this beautiful blanket for a Palliative care patient.
Cathy Bruton has donated 18 lovely tote bags, 10 drawstring bags and 1 warm knitted scarf.
Pam Neenan has sewn 20 drawstring bags for Uniforms 4 Kids Victoria using obsolete uniforms from Ambulance Victoria.

Beverley Brooks,  Valerie Pell and Irene Ashcroft have been very busy sewing and have made 30 tote bags and 61 drawstring bags between them.

Drawstring bags and totes are always in demand by many organisations we support and we donated 1,500 last year. Using obsolete uniforms is a great resource which keeps usable fabric out of landfill as well as providing useful items. I have plenty of drawstring bags cut out if anyone would like to take some to sew. If you have fabric that you'd like to use we make them approximately 12 x 14 inches but all sizes are useful as they're used for toiletries,  library bags, school supplies,  small toys etc. Organisations aren't allowed to use plastic bags so they can use as many as we can provide.

Another Quilt Made From Uniforms.

I have finished another I Spy quilt from donated uniforms and it will soon be giving a child some warm hugs. I have a few more in progress which I need to finish now the weather is so cold. I've also been busy cutting 180 kits for drawstring bags and I have a couple of lovely ladies who sew them for me which is a huge help.

Large Donation to Alfred Hospital's Palliative Care Unit.

Today I met with a Clinical Nurse Specialist from the Alfred Hospital's Palliative Care Unit and handed over 30,quilts as well as 6 crocheted lap blankets. Their patients receive Palliative care in hospital as they don't have family support to remain at home with support from visiting nurses.

The nurse was overwhelmed by the variety and number of beautiful quilts we donated and asked me to pass on a hug and her very sincere thanks for your beautiful quilts.

As well as bringing comfort to the patients the nurses love them because they brighten the rooms. They heard about Oz Comfort Quilts from staff who had seen our quilts at the Peter Mac Cancer Centre and they were very happy to receive them for their patients at the Alfred.

Many thanks everyone for donating such beautiful quilts and blankets to bring comfort to people in need.
