Rottnest Island and Fremantle, WA

 We took a day cruise over to Rottnest Island and enjoyed the sea views as well as the sunny weather.

 We saw some of the Island's Quokkas, which is like a small wallaby and native to the Island.

 We also took a tour of Fremantle Prison which has now been decommissioned as a prison.

 Many of the cells have been painted by the inmates but the tour guide told us that is was regarded as graffiti.

 Pretty fancy graffiti and it shows that people like to decorate their space to brighten their lives. The paintings were a huge improvement on the bare walls.

One of the cells was set up to show what conditions were like when the prison was first built in 1851. We can highly recommend the tour for its insight into our historical past.

A Week of Finishes.

 I'm trying to downsize as well as getting some of the donated tops finished so they can be donated and bring comfort and warmth. These three tops have now been finished and will be donated to Peter Mac, the hospital which treats cancer patients in Melbourne. Many of them were donated for the brushfire quilt drive in 2009 and I had so many donations that I didn't get them all quilted at the time. Luckily we had so many donations that everyone received a quilt.
   I thought Peter Mac is another worthy cause and I want to use up some of my fabric for backings and bindings so it's good to clear some space on the shelves.
   I finished a crocheted blanket the night before we left on our trip and then crocheted enough squares for two more blankets while we were away. I've finished the 3 off now and they will be donated to a group which helps homeless teens.
  I'd better get back to the sewing machine as I have 3 baby quilts to make by mid June and I have 2 more nieces having babies later in the year, so it's a busy time in the family.

More of South-West WA

 We visited the limestone caves near Margaret River and then moved on to Bunbury and Busselton.

 The Busselton information centre is located in an old light house near the jetty.

 We took the 2 km walk each way on the Busselton jetty although you could take a small train ride instead.

We made it and enjoyed our brisk walk. Two lovely girls from Melbourne took our photo. They were a bit confused when we told them it was 2 km out and 3 kms back on the jetty walk. LOL
A beautiful sunny day, some lovely scenery and our usual fun together- what more could we need.

Cape Leeuwin, WA

 We visited Cape Leeuwin which is the southern most part of WA. The weather was sunny but also windy and I love it when the sea is pounding over the rocks. As long as I am on land of course! LOL

 The lighthouse looked very pretty when the sun came out and the coastal scenery was stunning.

Pemberton WA

 We had some lovely 4 wheel driving on the sand dunes around Pemberton. The weather was changeable with sudden rain showers but mostly it rained overnight so we had some lovely sunny weather while we were exploring the sand dunes.

 This is Callcup Hill which is a large sand dune and a challenge for 4 wd enthusiasts.

 You can see our little car at the bottom of the hill. Ray enjoyed it so much he did it twice while I filmed the second run.

There were also two trees which climbing ladders which you could climb. This one was a fire lookout for the forest. They were 60 metres up to the viewing platform so we didn't make the climb.

South-West WA and the Stirling Ranges

 We had a wonderful trip seeing South West WA and are now back home. Sorry I had such a long break from blogging dear readers. We didn't have much internet access while we were away and I took lots of photos so it's nice to have time to see them on the bigger computer screen.

 This is the most South-western part of WA just put of Albany.

 We also visited the Stirling Ranges and Ray attempted climbing Bluff Knoll but ran out of daylight to complete the climb.

 The lovely beaches were a delight for us and they were deserted apart from some hardy fishermen and where we live is flat and inland.
