A Busy Weekend.

It was a busy weekend with our AGM for Victorian Quilter's Association on Saturday, and Anne Sushames,  a very talented Quilter's, shared some of her fabulous quilts in a talk.

More arrivals happened  with these 4 fabulous quilts from Wendy Boyes (Vic).

I made another skirt and a pair of shorts for a girl from obsolete uniforms from Ambulance Victoria,  for Uniforms 4 Kids Victoria. 

Cathy Bruton and the Inverloch Chatty Crafters,  donated lots of lovely items with 1 crocheted cot blanket, 8 felt teddies, 2 knitted bunnies, 10 pocket hearts, 11 stuffed toys, dolls clothes, 5 pair of adult bed socks, 6 knitted premmie hats, 10 gathered skirts for girls,2 pillow case dresses, 87 soap pouches,  25 drawstring bags for toiletries,  1 teddy pillow, 18 pair of new socks, 10 new t shirts/polo shirts and 9 shoe bags.

Pam Neenan,  Cathy's friend,  donated 9 pair of as new shoes as well as couriering the donations from Wendy and Cathy.

I also received a large anonymous donation of knitting UFO s, fabric, knitting wool, quilt tops and soft toys.

Lynette Caddell and her friend,  Di, donated 7 large bags of knit fabric as well as a tub of quilting fabric, some UFOs and some lovely hexagon flowers.

Uniforms 4 Kids Victoria.

 Uniforms 4 Kids consists of groups of volunteers based in many areas of Queensland, with the purpose of upcycling obsolete uniforms from organisations such as police, ambulance, fire brigade, Australia Zoo etc, and turning them into clothing for disadvantaged children. To date they have produced 28,500 garments since 2007 and the garments have been distributed to remote indigenous communities and throughout the Pacific Islands, including Tonga after their recent disaster.

I've been asked to establish the program in Victoria and, as it relates to the work we do with Oz Comfort Quilts, I agreed to make garments and also establish and support individuals and groups of sewists who are also interested in upcycling to benefit disadvantaged children. The garments are basically for children aged 4 to 12 years and they are basically simple dresses, skirts, shorts, bucket hats, pencil cases etc.

The uniforms are supplied and costs of postage etc will be covered by the organisation if you live too far way to drop off or pick up donations.

In Victoria we're starting with uniforms supplied by Ambulance Victoria and I have made a few dresses, skirts and a pair of shorts so far. The last photo shows one of the shirts supplied.

Please let me know if you're interested in sewing some simple clothing and there is no pressure or expectation to produce a certain amount.

I will also be setting up a separate FB group called Uniforms 4 Kids Victoria so we can share our ideas. Ambulance Victoria are very excited to be able to upcycle their obsolete uniforms and prevent huge amounts of useful clothing being dumped in land fill.

This Week's Finishes.

This week's finishes are more fabulous quilts made from donated QAYG blocks.  Sue Taylor  (Vic) donated the lovely bright and fun blocks in kid's prints. 

Lyz Kershaw  (Vic) donated 70 QAYG blocks in reds, greys and blacks and these are 2 lovely quilts made from them. 

Marie Lee and the Victorian Quilter's Association donated the pretty cot panel as well as the lovely QAYG blocks in the following quilt.

Margot Bailey (Vic) donated the pretty top in pastel yellows and blues, as well as the backing fabric and the batting.

Many Thanks Marijke, Ada and Marion.

More fabulous donations have arrived with Marion Thompson (Vic) delivering 7 beautiful cot quilt tops to make some cute quilts for young children. 

My friend,  Marijke from Holland,  has sent another large box containing wonderful donations made by Marijke and her friend,  Ada. They made 7 beautiful quilts,  14 quilt tops with some backings and bindings, a cute teddy bears, tote bags to be finished, some pencils and a set of crocheted squares to be finished into a beautiful blanket. 

So many generous donations which will bring comfort to so many people in need of comfort.
