Busy Quilting, Not Blogging.

The boys were sick last week and I seem to have been busy sewing and quilting but there hasn't been enough time to take photos and blog. Instead there's been lots of cuddles and story reading during the day and then sewing at night. My daughter wanted to make a quilt to welcome a close friend's baby so I cut and pressed while she stitched and we finished it in time to present it to the new parents. 

I've also been busy quilting tops for my quilting group,  AQA,  as we're getting ready to deliver more Oz Comfort Quilts and AQA quilts to Anglicare and I need a few more small ones for children. 

Sue Vranzizan (Vic) is a very generous supporter of Oz Comfort Quilts and she donated the next 2 beautiful quilts as well as 2 very large tops.

Pam Chaffe (Vic) donated several sets of blocks and these lovely blocks in blues and yellows were finished into a beautiful quilt by Kaye Hardman (Vic) which will be really appreciated by its recipient. 

Jan Baker from Trinity Patchworkers finished off this lovely QAYG quilt which was donated by Jenny Jasper (Vic), and Jan also donated another 3 lovely tops.

Mary Anne Rooney (Vic ), another generous supporter has sent Li's lovely flannel top,  backing and batting to make another lovely quilt to donate.

 I've also been busy making connections with new organisations which work with people affected by domestic violence and abuse and we will soon start donating quilts to comfort their clients. I've also received more donations of tops, blocks, fabric etc from deceased estates and will finish these UFOs and donate them to Peter Mac Cancer Centre,  as the families have requested. It looks like I will be busy for a while but I am well on the way toward finishing the baby shawl, thankfully,  as she will be here in 5 or 6 weeks.

Marilyn Wilson from Victoria has again very generously donated 4 more of her fabulous quilts.

They are all large and  in a range of colours and styles so it will be easy to find people who will love them.

Wendy Yates from Victoria has generously donated again with these 9 lovely Santa Sacks as well as the beautiful quilt top. 

So many children in care are going to be happy this Christmas when they receive a Santa Sack of gifts for Christmas.

A Busy Week.

More wonderful donations have arrived with this fabulous quilt coming from Simone Tischler (NSW) and the hexagons are just beautiful. 

Simone also sent some lovely orphan blocks and lovely fabric,  including a really pretty Alice in Wonderland print.

Linda Ashworth from the UK is a very generous supporter of Oz Comfort Quilts and she has very kindly donated 4 lovely library bags in bright kid's prints as well as 5 more lovely QAYG blocks.

Today I  also visited Backpacks for Vic Kids to discuss what they need for their clients, Kids in Foster Care. I took 6 of our lovely hand knits, 2 quilts,  a smaller blanket and one of these sanitary pad holders. They loved everything and they would love more of these items as well as kid's clothing and Santa Sacks. Usually they provide 2,000 to 2,500 Santa Sacks but last year they needed 4,500 so they have started making them now to avoid the pressure of last minute finishes . It's very easy project, using just 5 squares of 6 inch fabric and no fastening to close the pouch. It took me less than 5 minutes to make one so I plan on making more for them.

Quilt Deliveries and Donations.

It's been a busy week with delivering 22 quilts to the Peter Mac Cancer Centre as well as packing more quilts for delivery. Maia Butler from NSW is a very generous supporter of Oz Comfort Quilts and she has joined with her sister,  Maret, and a friend from Braidwood (NSW) who donated $50 towards batting as well as 2 quilts.

They also donated a top, batting and backing as shown below and I will get it quilted soon.

They also donated 4 more tops.

As well as 5 knitted/ crocheted baby blankets. 

10 knitted toddler jumpers/baby jackets,  1 pair of booties,  and 2 pair of knitted leggings, .

Wendy Yates from Victoria donated these  3 lovely quilt tops shown below.

Mary-Anne Goss from South Australia donated 2 large quilt tops.

S. Ross (Vic) donated 3 beautifully made library bags.

Oh Dear!

Victoria is in stage 4 lockdown again for at least 5 days and I don't  think that it was unexpected as most of us thought it would happen once they allowed tennis players to fly in for the Australian Open. Hopefully it won't continue on but we're half expecting that it will. We're not seeing the boys for a few days and it's a shame as our DD's pregnancy hasn't been easy and we like to have the boys here to give her a rest. We'll take them again if lockdown continues so she can get more rest. 

   I have started knitting a shawl for our expected granddaughter as, although they're not used a lot now, it will be a nice keepsake. I also thought that I should knit one for our granddaughter as I have made them for other people's children,  but when Jake was coming, we were busy getting the farm ready to sell, and with Aidan we were busy caring for Jake.

I had trouble finding a pattern Ilike using 3 ply but started knitting last week, after using a digital pattern. I have knitted about 25% of it and I don't like the outer edges it's too fussy. Oh dear!! Now I have found another pattern which is more like my favourite pattern (whichI can't find at the moment, oh dear!!) and I have started the new pattern so I hope that I like this one. My favourite knitting design for babies is feather and fan which this one has as well.

I'm also busy getting more tops quilted and this lovely pastel top was one of the many donated by Robin Walker and the Fishbowler Sewists from Tasmania. 

Barbara Dawson from Victoria made this pretty top in pink.

Lyz Kershaw (Vic) donated these fabulous QAYG blocks with a bright and tropical theme.

Maia Butler from NSW donated this beautiful top with hexagon flowers and an appliqued borders.

Lesley Lowe (Vic) donated this lovely top, as well as many others.

 This baby play mat was made from the large blue bordered and quilted blocks from Sunnybank Quilters from Qld, combined with small QAYG blocks donated by Marie Lee and the Victorian Quilter's Association.  I used grey joining strips which allowed the bright colours of the blocks to stand out. I had intended to have the 2 flower blocks in opposite corners but then they were turned around which doesn't look as balanced but probably not that important for a baby play mat. 

Let's hope the lockdown is over soon and that I get the shawl finished in time.
