After a busy weekend sorting and packing quilts we delivered 117 quilts, 15 knitted/crocheted blankets, scarves, beanies and gloves to a meeting of Warragul quilters. There we met Johanna who had arranged for their donated quilts to be transported to Lismore by a local removalist company, and she very kindly arranged for our large shipment of quilts to be included with their shipment. That allowed us to send so many quilts for no cost and it was lovely to be welcomed to their meeting, where I met a lady who had known me since primary school, as well as, Quentin O'Keefe, a fellow member of Southern Cross Quilters. It's a small world indeed and the world of quilters is very welcoming and supportive, which was demonstrated by Warragul quilters.
We were able to co-ordinate with Warragul quilters thanks to Sue from Lismore Craft and Quilters Guild as she put me in touch with Warragul quilters, and I am very grateful that I was in touch with Lismore Quilters in time to join in with their shipment arrangements.
It's wonderful to know that we were able to send so many quilts to the communities devastated by floods in the Lismore area as their need is great. Many of the quilts were queen sized or double sized. The remainder were mostly single bed sized so there will be many people much warmer this winter thanks to all of you donating so many quilts for us to distribute.
So far this year we have donated 388 quilts and more will be delivered tomorrow.
Hugs, Jan Mac
